US Proof Sets
Proof Sets are produced by the US Mint and contain one
example of each coin design for a given year.
So for example, a proof set for 1973 would
contain a Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt
Dime, Washington Quarter Kennedy Half Dollar and Ike
Eisenhower Dollar. The coins are
made using special coin dies to produce a higher quality
coin than coins struck for regular circulation.
They are handled differently to ensure the beauty
of the coin. According to United
States Mint records, Proof coins were offered for sale
for the first time in 1858. Proof
Sets, a complete set of coins, were first offered for
sale in 1936.
If you have a bunch
of Proof Sets that you inherited or collected years ago and are looking to
sell, please contact us and we will provide you
a way to provide us a list of the sets you have. Proof Sets values
vary by year.
